As the VP of the AME Northeast Region #@ameconnect I get to meet thought leaders locally and from around the county. This past Tuesday Scott Gauvin from Macresco provided our AME Members with a fantastic workshop "Conflict is the Root of All Waste".

Gauvin stated that "for every $10,000 spent on labor, $3500 of it is waste due to unresolved conflict". Throughout the day he touched upon many great points the attendees were able to bring back to their work and their personal lives for immediate improvement.

Scott asked the group "do people dislike and fear change"? Everyone of course said "yes". Scott suggested that this is not the case at all. Instead he said that human beings are petrified of the unknown, not change. They're also not worried about WIIFM (what's in it for me"). They're more interested in "what's at risk for me".

For example, let's say you're writing something on a white piece of paper. Someone comes up to you and says "hey, can I change that from white to yellow paper". You'd likely say sure. No problem. The old mantra would suggest that since that was change you would have disliked it. When in reality, there was no risk, so you'd have no issue with it. VERY important distinction.

There were dozens of useful take aways from Scott's presentation. If you'd like to learn more or have him speak at your company,  I suggest reaching out to him at 617.418.1122.

Thank you,

David Visco
