Hi Kimberly - fill lines work well. You're on the right track for sure. Have you checked out these indicator bins http://www.the5sstore.com/indicatorbins.html They currently only come in two sizes but they're great. You place the divider at the desired spot, when the operator gets to that point, they turn around the bin thus revealing the orange thereby triggering time to refill.
