A sixth phase, "Safety," is sometimes added. Purists argue that it is unnecessary since following 5S correctly results in a safe work environment. Increases in workplace hazard can happen when employees maintain cleanliness at the expense of safety.

Looking at the core vision, safety isn't really a primary part of it. I'm not saying its not important, but do folks feel it detracts from the primary goal of 5S?
